Savvy Teaching Tips
It's with a heavy heart that I said good-bye yesterday to my happy classroom at Grenfell Elementary. I'm moving to a new school with a much shorter commute. I'm excited about this new opportunity but not how it happened. I was told after school on Thursday, that I was starting in my new school on Monday. I had just over 24 hours to pack up my home of 22 years. (In my school district you are NOT given access to the building on the weekend). Well, 90 boxes later (Yes, 90!) I am still not fully packed up. But now I need to plan some stuff to teach with my new kids on Monday, and prepare to host a family BBQ tomorrow night.Grenfell has an amazing staff and so I had a LOT of help from colleagues yesterday, from helping packing boxes, to doing a Starbucks run, to basically teaching my class and their class at the same time so I could pack up my classroom. I am leaving one of the sweetest, nicest group of kids to go on a new adventure. One of my now former students said to me yesterday, "It's not fair. Today is your last day, and we don't get to spend it with you."It's these little moments, when you connect with a child, that make me love being a teacher.Onward to new adventures at Franklin Elementary. ...
